Liverpool V Nottingham Forest Highlights

Liverpool 3-1 Nottingham Forest: Reds secure slender lead heading into second leg

Liverpool came from behind to earn a slender 3-1 victory over Nottingham Forest

Klopp's side struggled against the Championship outfit but goals from Nunez, Gakpo and Henderson secured an advantage at the City Ground.

Liverpool left it late to secure a 3-1 victory over Nottingham Forest in the first leg of their Carabao Cup semi-final on Tuesday.

The Reds found themselves behind at the break, after Forest took the lead through Emmanuel Dennis in the 56th minute. Liverpool had chances to equalise, but they were wasteful in front of goal.

But Jurgen Klopp's side turned things around in the second half. Darwin Nunez equalised in the 68th minute, before Cody Gakpo put Liverpool ahead in the 88th minute.

Jordan Henderson then wrapped up the victory in stoppage time. The result gives Liverpool a slender lead heading into the second leg at Anfield on January 25.

Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp said he was "pleased" with the win, but admitted that his side "made it hard for ourselves".

"We didn't play well in the first half, but we were much better in the second half," Klopp said.

"We created a lot of chances and scored three good goals. We should have scored more, but we're happy with the win."

Forest manager Steve Cooper said he was "proud" of his players, despite the defeat.

"We gave Liverpool a good game and we could have got something from it," Cooper said.

"We're still in the tie and we'll give it our all in the second leg."

Liverpool will be looking to build on this result when they host Brighton in the Premier League on Saturday.
